The Compagnie Minière de l'Ogooué, a subsidiary of the Eramet group (the Gabonese State holds capital through SEM), has mined the Moanda deposit since 1962 — about a quarter of the world's manganese reserves — and ranks among the world's leading producers of high-grade ore: 7.1 million tonnes in 2025, a record level. It also operates the Moanda Metallurgical Complex, Central Africa's only manganese processing site, and the Transgabonais railway through its Setrag subsidiary (648 km). About 2,000 direct employees.
